This poem was inspired by a picture I saw in my "Cat Fancy" magazine. It's a picture of a kitten named, "Missy," who got her head smashed into the bed of a pickup truck when she was a kitten and now has brain damage. It just brought me to tears. I don't think I'll ever get her sweet little face out of my mind.
~MISSY~
You don't know me
and I just met you
but I feel like I've
known you forever.
Your crystal blue eyes
jumped off the page
right into my heart.
I've seen that look before
in my heart's reflection.
The sadness and loneliness
I saw in them, I feel in me.
One of those adorable eyes
looked a little crooked and
I couldn't understand why.
Then I read about your injury
and I couldn't stop my tears
from falling.
Just like you, my brain suffers
from a handicap.
That sweet little face,
that precious little eye has
touched my heart so deeply.
Even though you are a cat
and I a human being, I know
how you feel inside.
Scared and confused, lost and
lonely, but you will be okay.
God loves you very much and
he is there for you as he is for
me and someday we'll be with him.
No more crooked eye.
No more brain injuries.
No more sadness and pain.
Little Missy, I wish you knew
just how special you are!
